Due to pipework at Bedwas swimming pool flooding, this year’s swimming gala will be cancelled. We will hope to reschedule next year.
We recently had an energy week where the children had lessons and assemblies linked to saving energy. From this the children have become very passionate about saving energy within school, this includes ensuring lights are switched off when we leave the classrooms, turning whiteboards off and putting laptops into sleep mode. The children also decided they would like to hold an ‘Earth day’ so we spent today using as little or no gas and electricity as possible. We took meter readings last Wednesday and we have done the same today, so we can compare the amount of gas and electricity used on both days. These results will then be used to help us think of new ways to save energy as a school.
Can we please remind all parents that those who wish to purchase class photographs through school should return all orders by 12pm on Thursday 12th July. Alternatively, please feel free to order photographs online using the password provided in your pack.
Our Art Day was a huge success and parents/carers of children in the Foundation Phase will be invited into school on Friday 13th July at 9:15am to view and purchase their children’s artwork and the artwork for children in Gold and Silver class will be showcased on Monday 16th July straight after school. The funds raised will be used to replenish art resources across the school.
Mrs Gettings and Mrs Hayhoe would like to invite the parents of both Rainbow and Bronze class to meet on the yard at 9:15 on Friday 13th July. The Foundation phase topic this term has been ‘Carnival of the Animals’ and the children would like to show you what they have been doing by performing to you and showcasing their work.
The children will be creating some savannah sunset paintings that will be framed for the parents to purchase if they wish. The cost of these will be £5, which covers the cost of the materials and frames and then any profits made will be spent on enhancing the outside areas.
We feel that this would be a lovely way to finish the year and the perfect opportunity for us all to get together.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Although rather hot, the Machen Show was a huge success this year. Thank you to the PTA, year 6 pupils and the staff in Rhydri who all manned the stalls during the day. Thank you to Parent Governor Mrs. Freeman for her generous donation of prizes for the Year 6 stall and to also to Mr. and Mrs. Bruten for donating bottles of wine as prizes. All support throughout the day was greatly appreciated.
Very well done to all pupils who took part in the Machen Show individual competitions this year. We had several winning entries across the school as well as our class entries – Well done everyone!
Miss Evans will be with us in Rhydri on Monday next week (16th) to provide the violin lessons as the whole school will be out on Tuesday when the lessons would normally take place. Please remind your children to have their violins in school on this day.
