All children in year 5 have been invited to Bedwas High School on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st June. These days will allow children to familiarise themselves with the school and staff, as well as have the opportunity to explore the PE, DT and Science departments within the school. The visit will take place within the school day and transport will be provided. Parents/ carers are asked to provide a packed lunch for their children (those in receipt of Free School Meals will have a lunch provided).
‘Colorfoto’ will be in school to take class photographs on Monday 24th June. Please ensure your child is wearing the correct school uniform on this day. Examples of photographs will be on display for parents to view and order in a few weeks.
Sports day will be taking place on Wednesday 26th June at the Village Hall field for all pupils, including Nursery. Events are due to start at 1:15pm (Nursery children will need to meet their class teacher at the village hall field to sit with their peers in their correct houses). Please see the class teacher if you cannot remember which house your child is in. Please ensure that all children have had sun cream applied and wear hats, if necessary.
We welcome all parents/ carers, but request that you bring your own chairs to sit on. The PTA will be selling refreshments on the day, and all funds raised will, as always, be used to benefit the children.
We will closely monitor the weather throughout next week, but if the day does need to be postponed, the school website will be updated on the morning of sports day. The reserve date is Monday 1st July.
Our Welsh folk dancers will be taking part in this year’s Ffiliffest, which is taking place in Caerphilly Castle on Saturday 29th June from 11:00am. As well as the dancing, there will be lots of other performances on stage inside the castle. There will also be activities, sports, stalls and a food area – Ffiliffest is a community event so everyone is welcome to attend! Please ensure all children taking part arrive at 10:30am to meet staff prior to the event.
From September, our year 6 children will be attending a range of secondary schools. Letters for each of the transition days have been sent home, and where enhanced transition is necessary then arrangements have been made but these have not been included in the detail below. A list of dates has been included for your reference – please note that parents/ carers are required to arrange their own transport for the children on these days, unless otherwise stated.
Coffee Morning: On Wednesday 10th July at 10:30am, all year 6 children and their parents are invited to an informal morning at Bedwas Juniors to meet the new Headteacher of Bedwas High School, Mr Stephen Diehl. Light refreshments will be provided on the morning. We would be grateful if you could indicate to Mrs Curtis if you intend to come along so that we can make the necessary arrangements.

During the week commencing 1st July, pupils will be taught the ‘sex and relationships’ part of the PSE curriculum. The local authority Healthy Schools team recognised the school’s provision as excellent practice, and the school’s planning and resourcing has been shared across the Caerphilly authority for other schools to use. The lessons will be delivered in line with the specified curriculum for each year group. Understandably, parents may feel anxious about the content of the sessions. Mrs Banks will hold an informal meeting at the school at 2:50pm on Monday 1st July to give an outline of the curriculum and to answer any questions.
