From Monday 9th May until Friday 17th June, all children will be taking part in a whole-school reading challenge. The aim of the challenge is to promote the enjoyment of reading.
Adults are asked to read with their children, questioning them and discussing the texts (example questions are available on the school website). On completing a 20 minute session, parents/carers can sign and date the ‘Reading Monsters’ sheet. The sheets will be sent home with the children on Monday following a special assembly about the challenge.
To ensure the reading taking place is of benefit and a good quality, we ask that no more than two 20-minute sessions are signed per day for children in years 3 and 4, and no more than three 20-minute sessions for children in year 5 and 6.
A ‘Reading Champion’ title, as well as a prize of a £10 gift voucher, will be awarded to pupils who have spent the most time reading at home and in school. During the challenge, there will be no additional homework other than spelling lists. We want the children to read as often as they can!
